While you may not be planning on moving in the near future, maintaining your home will make for a more enjoyable living experience now and pay dividends later. Plus, keeping up on it now will save considerable time, trouble and expense when you go to sell down the road. Following is a breakdown of items you should check regularly and maintain throughout the year.

Inside the Home
Check stairway handrails and posts and replace when necessary.
Test all household alarms including smoke, radon and security alarms. Be sure to change batteries frequently.
Make sure all drains are running smoothly. Check traps and basement waste pipes, as well as main water line and shut-off.
Inspect the basement for any damp spots and waterproof as needed.
Wrap your cold-water pipes with foam rubber insulation to prevent pipe “sweating” or freezing.
Check attics, garage and other storage areas for any pests or insect infestation.
Repaint any rooms that appear faded.
Outside the Home
Keep gutters clear of twigs and leaves and sloped toward downspout.
Keep basement windows in good order. If necessary, add window-well covers to keep leaves and rain out.
Check that all roof flashing seals are secure.
Replace individual roof shingles when worn or loose.
Replace or repair any torn screen doors and windows to keep out insects.
Lubricate garage door hardware and hinges.
Fill and seal driveway cracks when necessary.
Trim shrubbery and mulch shrub beds.

Each summer evening on the lovely green surrounding the Adams Theatre, this pre-show entertainment features spirited song and dance. Add Elizabethan sweets, and you’ll have a fun-filled frolic to prepare you for the main stage performance that follows.
The Greenshow begins each Monday to Saturday at 7 p.m. from June 21 to September 1 on the green and the courtyard surrounding the Adams Shakespearean Theatre.

Decrease the amount of saturated fat in your diet. This means, limit red meat and avoid fried foods as well as those with partially hydrogenated oils.
Eat plenty of plant-based products, and limit your animal-based products.
Base your meals around fruit, vegetables and whole-grains, instead of meats.
Make sure foods that are fiber-rich make up 50-percent of your calorie requirements.
Buy foods that have the words “low-fat,” “low in saturated fat,” and “trans-fat-free” on the label.
Limit sodium intake, especially in regard to adding table salt.
When planning meals, focus on vegetables, pasta and whole-grains instead of meat.
Eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
Select broiled, baked, steamed or poached poultry, fish or meat rather than fried.
Order broth-based sauces on the side, instead of cream sauces served on top.

Don’t over-analyze tasks. Sure you need to think things through, but you can over-think them too. If you worry too much about getting it perfect before implementation, you can lose momentum, lose your window of opportunity, or worst of all…never do it at all.

A good strategy is to be sure your idea is ethical and legal. Then, if you think your chances of success are at least 70%, implement your idea. Successful people tend to make decisions quickly and change them slowly, where many unsuccessful people make decisions slowly and change them quickly. Be a part of the first group and implement your ideas.
