For those who like to ski Brianhead Resort is a great place because of the great snow that Utah has and was honored by the Family Travel Forum as a “Top Family Getaway”.

Cedar Mountain offers travelers great camping, 4 wheeling, fishing, hiking, and snowmobiling. Cedar City is close to Bryce Canyon National Park, Zion National Park, and Cedar Breaks National Park.

With all of these together plus more there have been many who have come to live in the Cedar City area to enjoy great living with outdoor activities plus a great place to raise a family. This has made the real estate in Cedar City continue to grow and flourish.

Cedar City Is In Iron County

Cedar City is in Iron County which got its name after iron deposits were found throughout that part of the region. The Mormon leader Brigham Young sent volunteers to colonize the Iron Mission area.Cedar City also has a lot of what people call Cedar Trees ( which are actually Juniper Trees). After the iron factory was set up it was the first iron factory west of Missouri. Due to some problems that the small blast furnace had at the iron factory along with hostility between some of the settlers and Indians the factory was shut down 7 years later.

Mining continued after the factory had shut down and continued to play a role in the economy through WWII. A neighboring community had some of the biggest mines in the country and was called Minersville. While there is not much mining that takes place in Cedar City anymore, people will always look to Cedar City Utah as the first place out west to mine and process iron.

We have lived in beautiful Cedar City now for 12 years and love the area.

If you are into outdoor activities there are limitless things to do. literally, we have skied one day during the winter at Brian Head Resort and the next day drove a short distance south for golf! I do not know of other areas that offer this, plus Zion National Park within a stones throw away!
